Start With Your Property Type
The right CCTV setup for a villa is different from the right setup for a warehouse or a retail shop. A home typically needs coverage at entry points, the driveway, and the perimeter. A warehouse needs wide-area coverage of loading docks and storage aisles. A shop usually prioritizes the till point, entrances, and stockroom. Working out which areas actually need coverage — rather than covering everything — keeps the system focused and the cost reasonable.
Indoor vs. Outdoor Cameras
Outdoor cameras need a higher ingress protection (IP) rating to handle dust, heat, and occasional heavy rain, along with wider operating temperature ranges to cope with UAE summers. Indoor cameras can be lighter-duty but still benefit from wide dynamic range (WDR) if they're pointed toward bright windows or doorways, since strong sunlight can otherwise wash out the footage.
Analog vs. IP (Network) Cameras
Analog cameras run over coaxial cable to a DVR and are usually the more affordable option for straightforward setups. IP cameras run over network cable (or Wi-Fi) to an NVR, generally offer higher resolution footage, and make remote viewing from a phone more straightforward. Neither is universally "better" — the right choice depends on your budget, whether you're wiring a new site or working with existing cabling, and how important remote access is to you.
Storage: NVR, DVR, or Cloud
Local storage (NVR or DVR) keeps footage on-site and doesn't depend on an internet connection to keep recording, which matters if connectivity ever drops. Cloud storage adds convenience and off-site backup but relies on a stable internet connection and typically comes with an ongoing subscription. Many properties use local storage as the primary record and treat cloud or remote viewing as a secondary convenience rather than the main storage method.
Night Vision and Weather Resistance for the UAE Climate
Heat, dust, and humidity are the three things that shorten the working life of a poorly-specified outdoor camera in the UAE. Look for a genuine IP66 (or higher) rating on outdoor units, infrared or starlight night vision suited to how dark the area actually gets, and housings rated for the ambient temperatures the camera will sit in through summer — not just the manufacturer's typical climate spec.

Camera specs only tell half the story — placement, cable routing, and existing infrastructure decide the rest. A site survey lets a technician walk the property, identify blind spots, and confirm what's realistic for your cabling and network before any equipment is bought.
